Rhun ap Iorwerth supports Anglesey Yacht Club hoping to sail to major award win

An Anglesey sailing club nominated for a UK-wide award for outstanding achievement has received the backing of Ynys Môn Assembly Member Rhun ap Iorwerth, and is the only Welsh club nominated for the prestigious prize.

The Royal Anglesey Yacht Club in Beaumaris has been shortlisted for the Royal Yachting Association’s Club of the Year Award 2020 and is the only club throughout Wales that has secured a place amongst the 10 finalists for the award.

The annual RYA Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award recognises the outstanding achievement of sailing clubs across the UK and promotes the hard work and dedication that goes into running a successful club.

After visiting the club recently, Plaid Cymru AM for Ynys Môn Mr ap Iorwerth said:

“I very much enjoyed visiting the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club in Beaumaris recently to celebrate their nomination for Royal Yachting Association Club of the Year 2020 – the only club in Wales that has made the shortlist, which is a fantastic achievement!

“I hope Anglesey will support and vote for this club to win this prestigious award. This is a club that gives so much to everybody that is a member of it, so I hope everyone can come together and vote to support this club in this award and it would be great to have a party to celebrate them winning.

“I wish the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club in Beaumaris all the very best and hope they get lots of votes from Anglesey residents before the deadline on January 27th. I look forward to visiting them again very soon.”

People can vote for Royal Anglesey Yacht Club to be RYA Club of the Year 2020 online via the RYA’s website – www.rya.org.uk. Voting closes Monday 27th January 9am.
