Rhun ap Iorwerth to chair Llangefni flooding meeting this week

Ynys Môn Assembly Member Rhun ap Iorwerth will chair an open meeting on Thursday for those affected by the floods in Llangefni last November.

Mr ap Iorwerth is urging the local people who were effected by last year’s floods to take advantage of the opportunity to meet and ask questions to the bodies who have been involved in work on the river Cefni since the floods.

The Plaid Cymru AM will be chairing a session that will be attended by senior officials from Isle of Anglesey County Council, Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Water and local Councillors.

The meeting will be held in Isle of Anglesey County Council Chamber in Llangefni and will begin at 4pm.

Mr ap Iorwerth said:

“Last year’s floods were a big blow to Llangefni. The floods costed businesses and local people dearly, and afterwards everyone wanted to see a quick response from the authorities.

“Since then, whenever there has been heavy rain forecast, it has caused significant distress to the local community, and the people are keen to have answers regarding what happened, and what steps have been taken to prevent flooding in the future.

“The public meeting which I will be chairing is an opportunity for local people to be updated regarding the work which has been conducted by Isle of Anglesey County Council, Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Water, and to ask questions to the bodies which have come together in order to help the town recover.

“I hope to see as many local people in attendance taking advantage of this opportunity.”
