Rhun ap Iorwerth MS calls for clarity on elective surgery.

Rhun ap Iorwerth, MS for Ynys Môn, has called on Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board to detail what action they will take to address the extensive waiting lists going forward following an announcement by the Health Board they will resume elective surgery.
In a letter to the Chief Executive, Plaid Cymru’s health and care spokesperson Rhun ap Iorwerth said – “many constituents have contacted me in recent weeks and months, with concerns that they have been left without information about their operations that were due to take place over the past year. Although they fully appreciate that these operations have been delayed due to the restrictions over the last year due to the pandemic, patients tell me how concerned they are, and detail the pain they experience every day and how it affects their lives – including their mental health, and that they feel there is no light at the end of the tunnel. “
He emphasized – “we can’t ignore the fact that waiting times were already too high before the pandemic, and I would appreciate it if you could explain what BCUHB’s plans are to ensure that we don’t get back to the way it was before the pandemic.”

Rhun ap Iorwerth recently called on the Welsh Government to introduce a robust, ambitious recovery plan, which puts NHS Wales in a better position than it was at the start of the pandemic and emphasized in the letter to the Health Board that he welcomed the Health Board’s views on how this can be achieved.
