Rhun gets boots on the ground to help struggling farmers

It’s ‘Welly Week’ and today Rhun ap Iorwerth visited dairy farm Graig Lwyd Ganol in Pont Rhyd y Bont, which like all dairy farms is having to battle through the serious challenges currently facing the industry due to the low prices paid for milk. Rhun was there to raise awareness of the work the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution does to help farmers who are in financial difficulty.

Rhun ap Iorwerth said

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult for our farmers to make a living from putting food on our table. Despite having investment recently in a new milking parlour, this family farm is under an enormous strain. They will survive due to sheer hard work and determination, and will hopefully reap the benefits when the industry starts to pick up, but it’s vital for our farmers to have continued support of their unions and charities such as R.A.B.I as we try to work towards improving the situation”
