AM to meet HSBC about branch closures

Ynys Môn Assembly Member Rhun ap Iorwerth will meet with HSBC this week to discuss their decision to close their branches in Menai Bridge and Amlwch.

Rhun ap Iorwerth AM is supporting the petition in Amlwch which calls for the decision to be deferred. He said:

“With the development of Wylfa Newydd, the north of Anglesey is about to embark on a period of substantial economic activity. In that context alone, it makes no sense to be rushing ahead with closure.

“Menai Bridge is already full of activity after the economic transformation of the past few years. Surely HSBC can see that now is a very strange time to be deciding to pull the plug on its operations there, especially coming so soon after the closure of its Beaumaris branch, when customers were told to use Menai Bridge instead.”

Rhun has also tabled a question to raise this issue with the First Minister in the National Assembly this week.
