Unsustainable Budget will impact Local Government says Rhun ap Iorwerth

Plaid Cymru have expressed disappointment at the Welsh Government Final Budget for 2019-20 citing it as a missed opportunity to alleviate the pressures on Local Government.

The Welsh Government published The Final Budget 2019-20 today.

Plaid Cymru shadow cabinet minister for economy and finance Rhun ap Iorwerth AM said the budget was disappointing and that the current settlement for Local Government isn’t sustainable.

Plaid Cymru shadow cabinet minister for economy and finance Rhun ap Iorwerth AM said,

“It is disappointing that the Welsh Government haven’t taken the opportunity to look again to provide a fairer settlement for Local Government in this Budget.

“I wrote to the new Finance and Local Government ministers this week to ask them to find ways to ease the pressure despite the deep cuts that have been passed on to Welsh Government because of the British Government’s austerity policies.

“The current Local Government settlement isn’t sustainable and this budget was an opportunity to take the pressure off.”
