AM asks for continued support for Anglesey Food Park

Ynys Môn Assembly Member Rhun ap Iorwerth has asked the Welsh Government to continue to support the idea of a Food Park in Anglesey following the Assembly elections and EU referendum.

Speaking in the Assembly chamber, Rhun ap Iorwerth AM asked the Cabinet Secretary for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths:

“I am very concerned about what will happen to the RDP in years to come. I did hold discussions with the Minister’s predecessor on the possibility, perhaps through RDP funding, and almost certainly through the use of European funding, of establishing a food production park on Anglesey, and I was very grateful to her and her officials for responding positively to that idea. I would appreciate confirmation that the Government, under the new Cabinet Secretary, continues to support that concept in principle and is willing to hold further discussions. Will the Cabinet Secretary make a comment on the dangers of Brexit to the future of such schemes and how to overcome that, including the possibility of moving forward very quickly with such a scheme?”

Speaking after plenary, Mr ap Iorwerth added:

“I was pleased to hear the Cabinet Secretary state that she would be very happy to continue to support the concept of the food park. I will now seek a meeting with her to discuss in more detail how we can move things forward.”
